'Right to life' (part 1): 'Fight for life' compelled by greed and now consumed by it!

Updated: May 11

Introduction

WTPOHK's 'right to life' series of blogs looks at different aspects of the supreme UN human right.

Part 1 'fight for life' is intended to stimulate awareness of our inappropriate beliefs and attitudes as a means for personal change coming from the inside, then moving out into the physical world:

"Let none find fault with others;

let none see the omissions and commissions of others.

But let one see one's own acts,

done and undone."

(Buddha)

Because we have the 'right to life' we don't have to 'fight for life'!

Which one did YOU consciously choose ?

+ 'Right to life'

or

+ 'Fight for life'

The United Nations supreme human right is the 'right to life'. In the UN letter to China "Mandates of the UN special rapporteurs 19 February 2020 on arrests of HK medics during protests" rapporteurs wrote (bold format added):

"..[i]n its General comment No. 36 (CCPR/C/GC/36), the Human Rights Committee has stressed that the right to life is the supreme right from which no derogation is permitted.."

1. Did you choose the 'right to life' to awaken and take personal responsibility to reverse your personal and our human collective dis-ease with life?

Wuhan virus COVID-19 is a paradigm shift in consciousness :

In the new paradigm we must live the 'right to life' as we grow our consciousness through awareness in healthy inter-dependency with all on Earth!

Live and let live! Live your life and let others live their lives.

2. Did you choose to 'fight for life' ? The ego for centuries has compelled some humans to act upon their greed without awareness nor consciousness :

Human greed created the virus 'fight for life' which is now consuming humanity!

Just look at what we are 'doing' to Mother Earth, to ourselves and each other : Almost all that we are 'doing' today on Earth is unsustainable and this results in global climate change, the most serious man-made problem confronting our life on Earth.

We are often 'doing' rather than 'being'. Most likely this is because many humans are unable to 'feel' their true selves, have empathy for others and to act positively upon their real feelings.

Usury rooted in greed has now consumed most of 'humanity' and Earth!

Facts : 'Right to life'

The current international rules-based order started with the United Nations Charter words :

"WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED

  • to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and

  • to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and

  • to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and

  • to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,

AND FOR THESE ENDS

  • to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and

  • to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and

  • to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and

  • to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples,.."

There is no mention in the UN Charter of monarchs, leaders, dictators, autocrats, totalitarian regimes, etc - there is only 'we the people of the United Nations...'

It is important to recognize that the 'Universal Declaration of Human Rights' (UDHR) was drafted by a committee of UN members of all nationalities, gender, race, religion, etc including China's UN ambassador Peng Chun Chang (張彭春) : i.e. CCP can not lie and claim that UN's Universal values are a Western concept while at the same time be a member of the UN Security Council!

WTPOHK acknowledges what appears to be significant positive social responsibility contributions by US President Biden and some Big Pharma companies towards solving the current COVID-19 global pandemic:

  1. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Johnson & Johnson committed over US$1billion toward development of a not-for-profit vaccine in partnership with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Johnson & Johnson said its vaccine project would be "at a not-for-profit level" as the company viewed it as "the fastest and the best way to find all the collaborations in the world to make this happen";

  2. Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is designed and developed to reach the lower price end of the market for world wide manufacturing and distribution of a vaccine using normal refrigeration priced at only US$3-4 for each dose;

  3. On 5 May 2021 US President Biden stated his administrations support to waiver intellectual property rights on vaccines and to push for the fastest effective COVID-19 vaccination program possible to eliminate vaccine inequalities world wide. This is a game changer - a significant global turning point towards the 'right to life' and away from the 'fight for life'.

Facts : 'Fight for life'

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) by their breach of UN international treaties is targetting the people of Hong Kong (HK), Tibet, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and EVERYONE world wide. Wuhan virus COVID-19 was created and spread by CCP. CCP has killed at least 77 million of their own people because it is a virus that creates viruses.

Stop CCP's worldwide human farming!

  1. The biggest polluter and destroyer of Earth is human demand for animal proteins in dairy, meat, fish, etc. This includes producing at least 50% of all green house gas emissions that cause global climate change, major contributions to destruction of natural rainforests, etc. 20% of Amazon deforested since 1970's (size of California) now mostly used by livestock;

  2. An estimated 1 billion humans go to sleep each night hungry : While the world's cattle eat enough grain to feed 8.7 billion humans (2021 human pop. 7.9 billion);

  3. Senator Elizabeth Warren in 2019 said the top 0.1% of Americans own as much as the bottom 90%;

  4. MSN reported on 10 April 2021 on COVID-19 vaccination program inequalities. "There remains a shocking imbalance in the global distribution of vaccines," WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a news conference on Friday. "On average in high-income countries, almost one in four people [25%] have received a Covid-19 vaccine. In low-income countries, it's one in more than 500 [0.2% i.e. x125]," he said.

The 'American Society for Clinical Nutrition' (2003) :

  • The US food production system uses about 50% of the total US land area, approximately 80% of the fresh water, and 17% of the fossil energy used in USA;

  • Producing 1 kg of animal protein requires about 100 times more water than producing 1 kg of grain protein (1kg beef needs 10,000 - 15,000 litres water);

  • Ratio of grain: animal protein for beef ratio 40:1 and lamb ratio 57:1;

  • The average fossil energy input for all animal protein production systems studied is 25 kcal fossil energy input per 1 kcal of protein produced; this energy input is more than 11 times greater than for grain protein production;

  • 2003 Worldwide 6 billion humans; estimated 2 billion (1/3) live primarily on a meat-based diet whilst an estimated 4 billion (2/3) live primarily on a plant-based diet. Shortages of cropland, fresh water & energy resources require most people to live on a plant-based diet. WHO reported 2003 more than 3 billion people are malnourished (worst result to date!); i.e. 50% of the world's population are malnourished!

Today much of humanity is consumed by greed in their 'fight for life'!

Connect with your feelings and then take positive actions

Extracted from our blog 'Good grief, what's going on?' : The global experience from HIV/AIDS is that in order to make a personal lifestyle change based upon becoming more inter-dependent first we have to face our grief.

Have you stopped recently, given yourself time to think deeply about what you have lost as a consequence of the covid-19 pandemic?

Grief is universal. At different points in each of our lives, we are bound to experience something that brings grief. It may be the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, the end of a relationship, or any other change that alters life as you know it.

The famous Elizabeth Kübler-Ross wrote about five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance.

It has been noted that not everyone experiences all the five stages, and that you may experience the stages of grief in any order. Grief is different for every person, so you may begin coping with loss in the bargaining stage and find yourself in anger or denial next. You may remain for months in one of the five stages but skip others entirely.

The question is, have you adjusted to the changes in YOUR life brought about by covid?

Are you, like so many others globally, still yearning for that elusive return to "normalcy"? Perhaps, like me, you are getting closer to accepting the idea that maybe your life is forever changed - that there is NO going back? When I hear the pandemic news about some people who still refuse to even wear a face mask, I can only assume they are still in the 'denial' stage. Maybe those who would blame China for allowing the virus to spread worldwide could be feeling very angry.

In the early stages of this pandemic, some Hong Kong (HK) people made the immediate connection with the SARS epidemic that swept into the city from China in 2002-2003 (see links below). That meant people in HK in 2019 were quick to start wearing face masks and adopt other necessary social distancing and hygiene precautions. There were also others who tapped into history, researching the Spanish Flu epidemic (1918-1920) and other major medical emergencies like Ebola (various outbreaks in Africa since 1976), and MERS (Saudi Arabia, 2012).

HK's pro-democracy freedom fighters are a determined and steely bunch, no doubt, but that does not make them immune from any potential illness sweeping the globe, or from any impact on their human psyche and emotions. The impact on us all has been compounding over the weeks and months.

Many have lost their innocence and naivety. Some have lost their employment, while others have lost their bond to family. Sleep, peace of mind and overall health has suffered not just from being an activist, but also from the ongoing heightened sense of impending conflict, of fear and threat. I doubt that these people would have it any other way as their cause was about self-determination, self-actualisation, and self-respect. Many felt and still feel there is something worth fighting for.

Dealing with covid-19 has been an added strain for everyone, and it's not yet over. Will it ever be?? We should not be surpised if we start showing symptoms of battle fatigue, or PTSD! We all have to act responsibly and care for ourselves and one another - and not just our physical well-being.

I take the greatest lesson in life from what I learnt as a gay man during the early stages of the AIDS crisis that first began in 1981, and I would like to humbly share the lesson of this with you.

No, this is not my coming out story!

First, I use the term "crisis" because the WHO has never actually recognised the AIDS illness as a "pandemic", instead terming it a 'global epidemic'. The fact is that since 1981 more than 30million people have lost their life to AIDS, and thanks to medical advances an even greater number are now afflicted with the virus but still leading meaningful lives.

And secondly, sadly, AIDS still infects and kills people due to inadequacies and gaps in health services, poor preventative education, social stigma and failures of governance.

There are some questions we the world over have to ask ourselves to begin an honest and realistic dialogue about the current pandemic:

+ What is life going to be like where ever you are in the world now that there is a new dangerous, mutating, life-threatening virus out there?

+ What personal and public adjustments and precautions do we now have to take as mandatory, that we did not give so much attention to before?

+ Do health systems in your country need more support and better organisation?

+ Are prevention, testing and vaccinations now more important than they ever were before?

+ Do you trust Science, and if not, what needs to change or happen so that you do?

+ Are you still only concerned about your own health and those of your immediate family, or have you begun to see that on this planet we are all more interconnected and dependent on one another than you ever imagined?

+ Do you trust your government to help your people adjust and adapt to the new reality, to maintain our health and stay alive?

+ Are you willing to be vaccinated, and are vaccines available on an equitable basis in your locale and globally?

Live in the moment NOW and awaken to the 'right to life' !

Which one will YOU now consciously choose ?

+ 'Right to life'

or

+ 'Fight for life'
