'Do not split' documentary film on 2019-2020 HK protests
Until the Carrie Lam government proposed its extradition bill in June 2019, Hong Kong (HK) people had always looked favourably upon the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) - despite the 4 June 1989 Tiananmen massacre. Unfortunately for HK people CCP has NEVER looked favourably on HK nor any people anywhere in the world! CCP wants HK the place, but NOT the people!
Under UN international treaty the Joint Declaration CCP has no right to do what it is doing in HK - and HK people know this! There will never be trust, stability nor prosperity in HK until the Joint Declaration is upheld, along with the rule OF law.
The short film 'Do not split' is a very well documented, insightful and emotional short film about HK's 2019 anti-extradition protests from September 2019 through until the 1 July 2020 enactment of CCP's illegal HK 'national security law'.
This documentary clearly shows the lawlessness of CCP and HK government. HK protesters uphold the Joint Declaration including HK's rule OF law : CCP and their minions the HK government have repeatedly breached the Joint Declaration using its arbitrary rule BY law. As an analogy, this is akin to US President Trump succeeding in his 6 January 2021 insurrection in the Capital!
This is an excellent documentary film and we hope it wins and does very well for everyone! Our thanks to everyone involved in this documentary and for making it accessible as a free online video for the world to see! Gai yau (add oil) !
This documentary connects together some of the dots : e.g. police sieges of Chinese University of HK and Polytechnic University, which was a CCP strategy to incite fear and stop HK public support for pro-democratic candidates in the 24 November 2019 District Council elections. CCP's strategy seriously backfired when pro-democrat candidates who were united in their support for HK protesters' '5 demands' won by a landslide the majority in 17/18 districts with 85% of seats (388/452) which completely burst CCP's BS bubble!
Having failed and seriously lost 'face' in 2019 HK District Council universal and equal suffrage elections, instead of starting a dialog CCP chose to use its dead-end 'nuclear' option of a 'national security law' in which it has now nuked everyone and everything including itself!
This is not a simple cleanup on aisle 3 by CCP : Having repeatedly breached international treaties the only way forward now for the world's democratic alliance (i.e. USA, EU, etc.) is to de-couple from CCP and to stay away until China 'de-contaminates' by reforming itself under the rules based international order, becoming a more responsible global partner for cooperation. Anything else will further degrade the rule OF law.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has completely lost its marbles over this documentary film : so much so that HK will not - for the first time in decades - be allowed to watch the Oscars live. This just proves how completely out of touch and childish the CCP really is. Well played CCP - you have once again shot yourself in the foot!
Unfortunately documentary film 'Do not split' does not do justice to the origins of the peaceful mass protest movement against the HK government's proposed extradition bill that began on 31 March 2019.
This documentary film also misses out the earlier mass peaceful protests from June - August 2019. For example, on 16 June 2019 approximately 2million HK protesters, a staggering 25% of HK's population, in a lawful peaceful protest marched from Victoria Park in Causeway Bay to Central.
HK people's protests were answered by police violence as CCP increased its direct rule BY law! The actions of CCP, HK government and police were questioned by UN rapporteurs in their letters to China - please see below.
By the time filming started for this documentary in September 2019 the CCP had breached the Joint Declaration : CCP and HK government's gross mis-governance and the arbitrary violence of police against the public and protesters alike meant that only a very limited number of protesters were protesting primarily by 'reacting' to the deteriorating social situation in HK. The vast majority of HK protesters were already sidelined by the police's unwilliness to approve protests and by their violence and arbitrary arrests.
CCP's primary goal is to remain in power in China no matter what! CCP strategy is for video footage to be shown on TV across China of their clampdown in HK against 'violent rioters' under 'foreign influence' who were seeking independence for HK and to overthrow the CCP.
The result of the repression by CCP in HK has been that the democratic world and its rule OF law is increasingly informed and wary of CCP's nationalist goal of creating a Middle Kingdom : issues include SARS-CoV-2 and the disease it causes COVID-19, Xinjiang Uyghur concentration camps, Tibet and Mongolian oppression, violations of international treaties including the Joint Declaration, participation in Myanmar coup, economic malpractice including stealing of intellectual property, product dumping, global digital surveillance, etc.
For HK people the 2019 protests started and still continue today because of CCP's and HK government's breaches of the Joint Declaration, rule OF law, human rights and democracy!
Significant events that were not mentioned in this documentary film include:
12 June 2019 Central Government Offices protest; police used tear gas, pepper spray and water cannon for the first time since 2014 Umbrella movement (CNN video);
1 July 2019 Legislative Council building breach (NYT video);
Yuen Long MTR attack by triads on public and protesters on 21 July 2019; despite repeated phone calls from the public, police did not respond for almost 40 minutes. This attack is directly linked to CCP's incitement of violence (HKFP video)
31 August 2019 Prince Edward MTR attack by the police on the public and protesters (HKFP video);
Another CCP BS bubble burst!
Stephen Sackur's recent interview of pro-CCP Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee 葉劉淑儀 . Ms. Ip is the ex-Secretary for Security, current Executive Councillor, Legislative Councillor and Chair of the New People's Party who famously lost all 24 seats in the 2019 District Council elections! Her Cantonese nickname translates into 'mop head'.
All of HK is laughing! This excellent interview by Mr Sackur tears apart not only Ms. Ip but also the BS of CCP and HK government narratives!
