Bye Don, bye Xi

Updated: Nov 10, 2020

Lately the world has been gripped by U.S. presidential elections, and in Hong Kong (HK) people wonder what effect, if any, the outcome may have on the political crisis here.

HK protesters you have done and are still doing great for HK's democracy!

Democracies have a built-in self-correction which is universal and equal suffrage elections: under the rule OF law, the will of the people in elections is the power of ballots over bullets! (Please see UDHR and ICCPR).

We believe that the will of the people in any democracy is best understood by a multi-option preferential voting system such as Modified Borda Count (MBC) - please see our MBC referendum blog 'In the face of CCP - ballots not bullets!'

The fastest & most effective way to make civil changes is by non-violent civil resistance!

What is disconcerting for all authoritarians and their elite's everywhere is to find out that their guns, violence, bullying, etc. are not as powerful as pluralistic people power!

Please see our blog 'The most powerful structure is "Pluralistic" People Power!' This is when the people exercise their will, having their say on how they will be governed, and who will govern them.

Democracy, in the words of the late great US activist and politician John Lewis wrote, is something we all have to work for - it is NOT a given!

In USA Presidential elections occur every four years.

Despite the words and actions of the incumbent authoritarian US President Donald Trump, finally the will of the American people is becoming known!

US Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden on 7 November 2020 has been widely named by mainstream media to be US 'President-elect'. Most Americans are just waiting for the democratic process to naturally play itself out, and until it does nobody is able to confirm if Biden or Trump will be the next US President starting on 20 January 2021.

The power of ballots over bullets!

As MSNBC's Rachel Maddow observed: in the face of a democratic system, people power and the rule OF law, the words and actions of the current authoritarian US President Donald J. Trump are relatively meaningless!

The American people have voted in massive numbers, and so far the votes counted demonstrate that the majority reject Trump - they no longer give their consent to be ruled by the current 'monolith' structure created by authoritarian US President / King Donald Trump!

So why have so many people in USA been scared of Trump?

Why are so many people in China, Hong Kong (HK), Taiwan, etc. so scared of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Emperor Xi Jinping?

HK people demand their right to immediately express their will in Legislative Council (LegCo) elections, and also in 2022 Chief Executive elections by universal and equal suffrage!

HK people demand that the Joint Declaration is upheld and that they enjoy their full UN human rights including ICCPR article 25(b) "To vote and to be elected at genuine periodic elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret ballot, guaranteeing the free expression of the will of the electors."

Under the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration On the Question of Hong Kong ('Joint Declaration'), HK's Constitution, HK starting on 1 July 1997 for 50 years will enjoy a high degree of autonomy, unchanged lifestyle, the British common law and an independent judiciary.

In 24 November 2019 District Council elections, HKs only universal and equal suffrage elections were held. Pro-democrat candidates ALL supported HK protesters' 5 demands and they won by a landslide majority of seats in 17 of 18 districts. This defeat devistated the CCP!

On 6 June 2020 the majority of District Councillors, representing the will of HK people, rejected the implementation of the CCP's HK National Security Law (NSL).

CCP recognised that the pro-CCP LegCo candidates stood a very high chance of being defeated in the 6 September 2020 Legislative Council (LegCo) elections. In response, under cover of COVID-19, they supported the postponement of this election for 'at least 12 months'. HK Chief Executive (CE) Carrie Lam on 31 July 2020 using colonial era legislation Emergency Regulations Ordinance (which does not comply with ICCPR) moved to postpone the LegCo election. On 11 August 2020 CCP's NPC passed legislation for the 4 year period of the current LegCo to be extended for at least another 12 months.

Emperor Xi Jinping is more scared than anyone because he has no clothes... bye Xi!
